Petrified Forest National Park: Sacred Ground has a Guard.

We drove through Petrified Forest National Park in Navajo and Apache counties in northeastern Arizona.  The Petrified Forest is known for its fossils, especially fallen trees  that lived in the Late Triassic Period, about 225 million years ago.  There are more than 600 archeological sites in this place, including pueblos and petroglyphs.  

This guy is guarding.  This coonhound is just sayin'.

Enjoy the view, enjoy the fossils, but touch don't take!

Please leave this sacred place intact for future coonhound visits!

Creeks and Views and a Doggie Menu Too!

Driving into Sedona, Arizona this coonhound could tell that this was going to be a really, really great place for some coonhound hiking.

Creeks and mountains and trails, oh my! All this fresh outdoors is making me a really hungry coonhound.

I will have the Cheddar Omelet with Turkey Jerky and cold filtered ice water made especially for me from Chef Mercer.  That is one great guy who is dog friendly!  I like this place.

Also there is great shopping here too.  Like this bear is only $95,000!  This seems like a bargain to this coonhound

One last hike for this refreshed coonhound before heading on to my next adventure.

What I missed at Yosemite #doggiediscrimination

This is not a happy traveling coonhound.  Brandon and Sarah at Tenaya Lodge were really, really nice - but I had to miss all the trails and hiking and critters because of doggie discrimination!!!

Look at me in Yosemite! Right behind me is Half Dome, it is 8,825 feet tall!!! If you look real close there is a waterfall too. I am an impressed coonhound I can tell you that.

Plus...now we are talking!  A creek and critters too!

Clearly another example of doggie discrimination.  So many trails denied to me.  Sigh.

Snow!  My first snow!  In July!  This coonhound likes this park!

I am one tired traveling coonhound.  Time to relax at the Lodge. I hope we have some more great coonhound adventures tomorrow!

On the road to Yosemite...Pop! Pop! Pop!

Today was another really, really long day for this traveling coonhound.

Rick and Kristen kept driving us up, up, up....then down, down, down.  This coonhound has very big ears that kept going pop, pop, pop!  It was very annoying to me.

And then...

I met this critter and I was one confused traveling coonhound.  He did not even have a critter smell and was not friendly to me.

We finally got to a town called Lee Vining (look that guy up....sheesh - he has a whole town named after him?!?), where they LOVE coonhounds.  Except I still was not making friends with this kind of critter.  I hope Kristen and Rick find me some good trails and critters when we get to Yosemite tomorrow.

Rick and Kristen and I have been driving and driving and driving and we are finally at a place that looks like there is a trail.  I am hoping for a critter sighting too.  This makes me a very happy traveling coonhound!

This place is very beautiful to me.  Everything seems tall and magnificent.  Like me!

Whaat!?!  What does that say!?!  This looks very unfortunate to me.  I want to go see this arch too! Rick and Kristen will need to find me a trail soon.

This was a little bit short of a Texas size trail, but now I am the king coonhound of this rock!

Even with the doggie trail discrimination, this is a  really, really beautiful and magnificent place to me.  I am glad we started our new adventure here.
